NAFA-KHUM

The word "Khum" in Marma language means "Waterfall". This is one of the most beautiful, adventurous and wild place of Bangladesh which is probably the largest waterfall of the country according to the volume of water that falls from here. The wild hilly river Sangu suddenly falls down here about 25-30 feet creating this mind blowing natural wonder. A special type of flying fish are found at the bottom in a small cave as they swim against the stream but cannot jump over the hight of fall. The local name of the fish is "Nating".

Location

The place is a quite inaccessible place near Remakri of Thanchi Upazila, Bandarban District, Bangladesh.

Tourism

Nafa-khum is not that much popular as a tourist place but its obviously a place of interest for adventurers and explorers who likes to have their journey on hill tracts and through wild hilly rivers with their step downs.
How to go:
1. The distance from Bandarban town to Thanchi Upazila is about 82km which is a 3hour journey on "Chader Gari" or Bus. On the way another popular tourist place "Nilgiri" can been seen.

2. A boat journey of 3 hours on Sangu river requires to reach Tindu and another 3 hours to reach Remakri.

3. Finally a walk along the Remakri canal for 3 hours reaches to the fall "Nafa-khum".

As long as the way goes towards the source of river the number of step downs of Sangu increase and becomes more wild. Though the journey is a bit risky and exhausting but not that much to be afraid of. Tourists enjoy rafting on the way as the river is very rough specially in rainy season but as it is not so deep usually no accidents occur.
