Bibcodes

[edit]

Page to discuss and implement a bibcode cleanup, request from User_talk:Citation_bot#Bibcodes.

Usage stats

[edit]

Stats on pages with > 4 citations using a URL with adsabs.harvard.edu in it, As of January 2011.

  • Does not consider bibcode mirror sites
  • Does not consider citations outside of {{cite journal}} and {{citation}}
  • Does not check whether the citations have both |url= and |bibcode= in them, so may include duplicate counts
  • This is 299 records, there are ~1800 (including Template:Cite doi/ and Template:Cite pmid/) when threshold is 1 bibcode URL
  • Use of {{cite doi}} or {{cite pmid}} isn't counted.

Mirror sites

[edit]
  • Used much less than main site: 180 pages use mirrors in total, 23 cites using mirrors on Beta Pictoris, other pages < 7.

Queries

[edit]
  • When bibcode URL is not just to plain mirror/abs/bibcode, is other information shown that a |bibcode= conversion would lose?

Next steps

[edit]

Rjwilmsi

[edit]
  • Write logic to extract bibcode value form bibcode URL, including mirrors
  • Write AWB custom module to convert bibcode |url= to |bibcode=
    • Look out for any URL decoding needed
    • Ensure to log & skip if existing |bibcode= and derived bibcode from URL doesn't match it
  • Bot request?

Helpers
