When treated with sodium bisulfite, cytosine is converted to uracil, while methylated cytosine is unaffected.
Bisulfite conversion, changing unmethylated cytosine to uracil, while 5-methylcytosine remains unaffected by the treatment.
Bisulfite conversion selectively changes unmethylated cytosine to uracil, while unaffecting methylated cytosine. PCR then amplifies the sequences, after which restriction digestion of CpG islands fragments originally methylated sequences, while originally methylated sequences are unaffected.
