Almaguin Highlands
Appearance
Almaguin Highlands Region in Ontario covers approximately 8000 square kilometers (3000 square miles). It reaches northward from the district of Muskoka to the city of North Bay.
In the east, the Highlands border on Algonquin Park. To the west is the shoreline of Georgian Bay near the 'Thousand Islands' and the city of Parry Sound.
The region includes 18 municipalities such as Novar, Callander, Whitestone and Kearney. It is part of the Canadian Shield geological formation, and includes mixed woodlands, hills and crags, as well as hundreds of lakes and rivers. Almaguin tourism attractions include hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities.
