Thomas "Tom" Secunda (born 1954) is an American businessman and technologist, best known as a co-founder of Bloomberg L.P.

Career

Secunda began his career as a programmer.[1] Prior to joining Bloomberg, Secunda was a fixed-income trader at Morgan Stanley and was in systems research at Salomon Brothers, working alongside Michael Bloomberg.[2]

Bloomberg LP

Secunda joined his former Solomon Brothers’ colleague Michael Bloomberg in 1982 to set up a data analytics firm called Innovative Market Systems, which was later renamed Bloomberg LP in 1987.[3]

Secunda is currently the global head of Bloomberg’s Financial Products and Services, serves on the board of directors, and is one of the founding partners of Bloomberg, which was established in 1982.[4] Secunda works to help Bloomberg develop new features and tools for Bloomberg Professional service, the company’s primary product that drives 85 percent of its estimated $7 billion in revenue.[5]

In addition to being the head of Bloomberg’s financial products and services, Secunda oversees a global staff of 5,000.[6] When asked about Bloomberg, Secunda has said that he is “immensely proud of the culture, the people and the company.”[7]

Degrees and honors

Secunda holds a BS and MS in mathematics from Binghamton University.[8]

He serves on the Boards of Trustees of the National Parks Conservation Association[9] and the Intrepid Museum Foundation,[10] and serves on the Westchester County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Board.[11]
