Ray Dalio
File:Ray Dalio.jpgRay Dalio is an American businessman and the founder of Bridgewater Associates. He is the 162nd richest person in the world, with a net worth of US$6 billion as of 2011.[1]
Early Life and Education
The son of a jazz musician, Dalio began investing at age 12 when he bought shares of Northeast Airlines for $300 and tripled his money when the airlines went through a merger.[2]
Dalio received a BA from Long Island University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. [2]
Career
After college, Dalio spent a summer working on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange and afterwards he began dealing in commodity futures.[2]
In 1974, Dalio spent a year trading futures as a broker at Shearson Hayden Stone. [2]
After leaving the brokerage he founded the investment management firm, Bridgewater Associates, in 1975 and his investment advisory service attracted a few large pension funds that each committed several million dollars. [2]
Personal
Dalio is a practitioner of the Transcendental Meditation technique.[3][4][5]
He resides with his wife in 5,550 square foot house in Greenwich, CT.[2]
