The Cyr wheel (also known as the roue Cyr or simple wheel) is an acrobatic device invented and popularized in the early 21st century. It consists of a single large, metal hoop,[1] and is used in a similar manner to a German wheel, with the acrobat rolling the wheel around the stage from the inside.

The Cyr wheel was popularized by Daniel Cyr in 2003.[2]

There are records of others using a similar apparatus during the 19th and 20th centuries, but Daniel Cyr is known to have popularized it, and claims he created it without any awareness of previous similar devices.[citation needed] It is now used in performance by hundreds of performers around the world.

Angelica Bongiovonni has combined performance on the cyr wheel with dance and aerial. Ms. Bongiovonni graduated from Ecole nationale de cirque in 2011 .[3]

Here is a rare picture of "Adalbert von Rekowski" dated around 1930 using a similar device.

Since 1933, Adalbert von Rekowski has held a world record for rolling 100 metres in 22.2 seconds in his wheel.
