SSV Ulm 1846 is a German sports club from Ulm, Baden-Württemberg. It is one of the country's largest and oldest sports clubs and offers its 9,500 members more than twenty sports. The current club was formed out of 5 May 1970 merger of TSG Ulm 1846 and 1. SSV Ulm.

History

TSG Ulm 1846

Ulm's first sports club was founded on 12 April 1846 as Turnergemeinde Ulm. They had an on-again, off-again relationship with Turnverein Ulm through the 1850s. In 1860 the club changed its name to Turnerbund 1846 Ulm. In 1939 Turnerbund, Ulmer FV 1894, Turnverein 1868 Ulm and Sportvereinigung 1899 Ulm merged and formed TSG Ulm 1846.

1. SSV Ulm

In 1922 the swimming group left Turnerbund Ulm and formed 1.Schwimmverein Ulm. 1. SSV Ulm was formed in 1928 merging 1.Schwimmverein Ulm and Sportverein Schwaben.

Finally, in 1970, 1. SSV Ulm merged with TSG Ulm 1846 to form the current club.

In 2009, the football group left SSV Ulm 1846 and formed a new club, SSV Ulm 1846 Fußball.
