Hardly Working

Jake and Amir is a web series starring CollegeHumor writers Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld. They play humorous versions of themselves; Jake is generally depicted as a "regular guy", and Amir as his annoying and obsessive co-worker, the pair acting as a comedic double act. The series began on May 23, 2007, and new videos are currently posted every Tuesday and Thursday on CollegeHumor's website and the series' Tumblr blog. Outtakes are sometimes posted to the Jake and Amir Facebook fan page.[2] The show has won a Webby award for Comedy: Long Running Form or Series, and star Amir Blumenfeld won Best Individual Performance (both in 2010).[3] The show also has a large fanbase.

Characters

Jake's character is usually the "straight man", although in later episodes Jake has played the "funny man" role more with his character portrayed as self centered, and ignorant while Amir is usually the "funny man": Amir is obsessed with Jake, and often says or does annoying things to try to be friends with him. Amir is also obsessed with fast food chain McDonald's, especially with their Chicken McNuggets; he is unhealthy and doesn't do any work. It is implied in Cousin that the only reason Amir keeps his job at CollegeHumor is because his cousin Linford secured that he would have it for the rest of his life.[4] It is also pointed out often by Jake that Amir's friends have very strange names such as Cryan, Tracyn, Widely, Doobs (Penis Anthony Doobliné) and Bradlyn. Jake and Amir switch their roles as straight and funny man respectively in some episodes[5][6], to varying degrees and durations.

Catchphrases

Amir's character has several catchphrases that he says frequently (although they have recently become less common). These include "Oh sheesh y'all, 'twas a dream", "For the (epic) wolf" and "Dinner tonight". The first two have been made into t-shirts by BustedTees[7][8] (owned by the company that owns CollegeHumor), along with a t-shirt reading "Jake and Amir: So Ace".[9]
