Artichoke Joe's Casino is a card club in San Bruno, California.

History

The establishment opened as a pool hall in 1916 and later added gambling.[1]

BART controversy

The casino came to fame in the 1990s during construction of the SFO BART extension because the owner spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in an attempt to both derail the extension entirely and to profit from it.[2][3] The owner lobbied heavily for the station to be places at the location of his casino so to profit from a land sale, to extort and sue Bay Area Rapid Transit for perceived losses of earnings and parking replacement, and to completely do away with the project entirely.[3][2]
