Soony Saad (born August 17, 1992 in Dearborn, Michigan) is an American soccer who currently plays for Sporting Kansas City in Major League Soccer.

Saad previously played for the University of Michigan Wolverines men's soccer team, helping to lead them to the NCAA tournament final four for the first time in school history. After 1 season he left to find opportunities overseas but later signed on with MLS and will be assigned to a team via the weighted lottery. On May 20, 2010, he received the National Gatorade Player of the Year award, an award given to only the most promising young high school athletes. During his first season with the Wolverines, he also managed to win Big Ten Freshman of the Year becoming the first player in Wolverine history to earn the award.

High School

Saad set a state record with 76 goals in his 2009 season concluding his high school career with a state record 172 goals, plus 51 assists; breaking previous state high school single-season goals record of 69 set in 2000, and previous state high school career goals record of 169 set in 1995.[1] He also earned the 2009 Michigan Soccer Coaches Association "Mr. Soccer" Title and was named the 2009-10 Gatorade National Player of the Year.[2]

College

Saad had a very successful freshman season. He scored 19 goals, smashing the record for most goals by a freshman at University of Michigan (14), set records for shots and overall points.[3] He played on the team with his brother Hamoody Saad. He helped the team win their first Big Ten Championship and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year.[3] Saad left school after his freshman year to seek a professional contract with a European team.[4]

International

Soony Saad received his first callup to join the United States U-20 men's national soccer team in December 2010, and played in one game against Canada, scoring once.[5][6]
