Hart of Dixie is an upcoming American medical drama television series. On May 17, 2011, The CW officially picked up the pilot to series.[1]

It will premiere on Monday, September 26, 2011, at 9:00 pm, following Gossip Girl.[2]

Synopsis

The series follows Dr. Zoe Hart as she moves to a remote town in Alabama when there are no jobs available for her in New York.[3]

On February 1, 2011, it was announced that The CW had ordered a pilot for Hart of Dixie.[4][5] On May 17, the network officially picked up Hart of Dixie to series, set to air in fall 2011.[1] The series marks the second time executive producer, Josh Schwartz and series star, Rachel Bilson, will work together on television.[1] The first time the duo worked together was on the Fox teen drama The O.C., created by Schwartz.

The show's executive producer, Josh Schwartz, compared the show to WB classics such as Felicity, Everwood and Gilmore Girls.[6]

With the reveal of The CW's fall 2011 schedule, it was announced that Hart of Dixie would air on Monday's at 9:00 pm Eastern/8:00 pm Central, following Gossip Girl.[7] It will premiere on Monday, September 26, 2011.[2]

Casting

On February 8, 2011, TV Line reported that Rachel Bilson was nearing a deal to star in the series,[8] her role was later confirmed on a press release for the show.[9] Scott Porter was later cast as a potential love-interest for Bilson's character.[10]

On May 20, 2011, it was announced that Nancy Travis would not continue with the series due to her commitments with the Fox-produced show Last Man Standing which will air on ABC.[11] Travis will appear in the first two episodes of the series before being written out.[12]

Reception

TVLine.com has described the show as Everwood-esque.[6][13]
