David Posnack Hebrew Day School is a private Jewish day school located in Davie, Florida.

History

The school was founded in 1974 as an elementary school. The middle school was added in 1995 and the high school in 1998.

Tablet PC program

For the 2009-2010 school year, the Upper School initiated a Tablet PC program. They use the Toshiba Portege M750 Series Tablets. Classes use the computer as a tool to enhance collaboration. Dyknow, and Microsoft Office (including Microsoft OneNote) are two software packages used to help engage students. For the 2010-2011 year, students were permitted to use a non-tablet PC with a Wacom Bamboo Tablet attachment. The systems are all running Windows XP, Mac OsX, Linux, Vista, or 7.

Administration

For the 2011-2012 school year, the High School principal is Daniel Tuchman. The Middle School principal is Gayle Green, and the Lower School principal is Linda Gutheit. The High School Judaics Principal is Rabbi David Gutterman, and the head of school is Richard Cuenca.[2]

Campus

In January 2011, the David Posnack Hebrew Day School consolidated its lower, middle and high schools onto one campus in Davie, Florida. Previously, only the lower school was located on the campus, with the middle and high schools located in Plantation, Florida.

Curriculum

High School curriculum includes Science, Mathematics, Tanach, English, Hebrew, Physical Education, Health, World History, and Rabbinics. The School has an outstanding Advanced Placement program in History, Economics, Government, Psychology, Human Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Calculus, Statistics, English, Music and Art. (In the High School, if a student finishes the required Hebrew curriculum, they learn Arabic for their last year in high school.) Middle School curriculum includes Science, Torah, Mathematics (Including up to two-year ahead Advanced Courses), Hebrew, English, Physical Education, World History, United States History, Jewish Denominations, Jewish History, Israel History and Holocaust Studies.
