Vanaprasta is an American Indie rock quintet from Los Angeles, California, consisting of Steven Wilkin (Vocals/Keys), Collin Desha (Guitar/Vocals/Keys), Taylor Brown (Bass/Vocals/Keys), Cameron Dmytryk (Guitar) and Ben Smiley (Drums).

History

Vanaprasta was formed in 2009, and the quintet's debut EP Forming The Shapes was released a year later. Lead single "Color of Sin" was featured on the Download to Donate for Haiti compilation presented by Music For Relief and Causecast in February 2011.[1] They contributed a cover of LCD Soundsystem's track "All My Friends" for Uncovering A Cure, a compilation album benefitting AIDS Project Los Angeles.[2]

Buzz began to build around their live performances after they were featured at the Sunset Strip Music Festival in August 2010. LA Weekly's Kevin Bronson said: “The L.A. quintet's debut album Healthy Geometry (finished but not yet released) is a head rush of twining guitars, ripped rhythms and Steven Wilkin's big tenor. The Killers with doctoral degrees in guitar rock.”[3]

Vanaprasta landed a residency at The Echo in September 2010 and premiered songs from the aforementioned Healthy Geometry. They worked with producers Manny Nieto and Dave Cooley, and the album's release is forthcoming.[4] Healthy Geometry is set for a late 2011 release.

Vanaprasta has opened for Young The Giant[5] and Deep Dark Robot.[6] After playing multiple showcases at SXSW in March 2011, they went on to perform on the West Coast Rumble Tour presented by Future Sounds.[7]

Television Appearances

Vanaprasta were featured as the musical guests on KTLA's Morning Show on January 27, 2011.[8]
