Javin Hunter (born May 9, 1980 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American football wide receiver with Team Michigan of the All American Football League (AAFL).
Education
Hunter attended high school at Detroit Country Day School in Beverly Hills, Michigan, where he was a 3-time All-State basketball player teaming with current Houston Rockets player Shane Battier for 3 straight state basketball championships. He then attended the University of Notre Dame, where he was the college's leading receiver in 2001. He was also a walk-on member on the Irish basketball team in his freshman year under former NBA coach John Macleod.[1] Hunter's father was James Hunter, a former all-pro defensive back for the Detroit Lions from 1976-1982.[1]
NFL career
Although drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2002, Hunter played a short time due to various injuries. Hunter first showed promise as a rookie during the preseason scoring two touchdowns, including one on a 99 yard kick return against the New York Jets. Hunter was named one of ten rookies to watch for the 2002 season by The Sporting News. He finished the 2002 season playing in 12 games, 5 of them starts, picking up 35 yards on 5 receptions and 4 kick returns for 105 yards including a 63 yard return against the Indianapolis Colts, for a 26.3 yard average. The next year, Hunter ruptured his Achilles tendon and was placed on injured reserve. In September 2005, Hunter made the switch to cornerback from wide receiver. However after an injury during camp he was waived with injury by the Ravens.[2] Hunter was then picked up by the San Francisco 49ers in 2005.[3].
Personal
Hunter has a son, Jaden, with former Notre Dame and WNBA point guard Niele Ivey.
Hit and run accident
On July 17, 2007, while driving a car in Maryland, Hunter struck a motor scooter and then fled.[4] The scooter's driver, a 53-year-old man, died of his injuries several hours later.[5][6] According to police, Hunter came forward the following day to be interviewed about the accident. At that time, no charges were filed.[7] Hunter was arrested February 28, 2008.[8] He was charged with two felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident, two misdemeanor counts, and several traffic charges, and was then freed on $25,000 bond.[9] On November 10, 2008, he received a five year sentence, with all except six months of the sentence being suspended.[5][6][10][11]
