Grepolis is a massively multiplayer online browser-based strategy game developed by the German software company Innogames. Grepolis allows players to build their own classical city, complete with a Senate Building and to raise armies consisting of land, naval, and even mythological troops!

Overview

Grepolis is a browser based strategy game set in Ancient Greece. Players start with a tiny ‘polis’ or city and must build it up into a thriving metropolis. All player controlled cities start near the coast of one of the many islands that populate the world. More inland towns are NPC controlled Farming Villages that can be pillaged by surrounding players. There are three key resources in Grepolis, Wood, Rock, and Silver which are all generated at different buildings. Farms are also required to increase your city’s population and warehouses increase the cap of resources players can store. After getting their economies set up, players must train land troops, ships, and even mythological creatures to defend themselves from aggressors in this open PvP environment.

Units

In Grepolis, you have to build military units in order to attack other cities or defend your own. There are two kinds of units - land and naval. Both types of units can be offensive, defensive and hybrid. Offensive land units can be used to pillage other cities on your own island, whilst naval units can be used to transport land units to other islands or can be used to attack others naval ships. Defensive units are used to protect your polis from other players attacks.

Buildings

In the game you may build buildings in order to expand your city. Every building has a different function, such as construction of other buildings, recruitment of units, resource gathering, etc. Most buildings have requirements also, which must be built before the building may be built. All buildings are built through the Senate and each building gives you points.

Alliances

The game is heavily favored towards cooperative play. To be successful, players need to work with others in an alliance and/or with allies. Without an alliance, you are more likely to be attacked by people who are looking for easy kills and don't have to worry about diplomatic issues or retaliation from their target's alliance. Alliances may set the following diplomatic relationships with other alliances: Ally (when both alliances are willing to help each other with attacks and support), NAP (Non Aggression Pact) and Enemy (Alliances to whom you are at war).

End game

The ultimate goal of the game is to become a hero and gain access to so-called Hero World. This can be achieved by alliances building "world wonders" in the classical world. Reaching the age of the World Wonders depends on the total score of the top 50 alliances. After all requirements are completed, the players may start there empire from scratch in the new hero world, which will offer additional features of the game.
