Mohammed Ibrahim Yusuf (29 January 1970 – July 2009), also known as Ustad Muhammed Yusuf, was the founder a Nigerian militant organisation Boko Haram. He lead the organisation until July 2009 when he was executed by the Nigerian security forces in police custody in the aftermath of the sectarian violence in the country.[1] Yusuf was educated in the traditional Islamic school system in Nigeria, known as makarantar Allo or makarantar ilmi. He studied Salafism and despite the fact that he never attended a western style primary school, he could read and write fairly well.[2]
