The Bucharest Symphony Orchestra was established on the Romanian music scene in 2006, following the initiative of Philson Young Association, with the aim to bring music closer to the lives of many different people. Vibrant, energetic and joyful, this educational project takes a long-term view on music, with no professional compromise.

About the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra

The mission of the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra is to attract, educate and develop a wide variety of music fans. The concept is based on innovative music agendas that are unique to Romania. The repertoire of the Project takes into consideration the variety of music fans, their age and taste in music.

The members of the orchestra are respected musicians of the Romanian cultural scene, who have proved their status as solo performers or members of other orchestras and national and international ensembles. They have received famous prizes in Romania and abroad.

In an attempt to go beyond their own limitations and feelings, the members of the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra approach new styles and emotions and give life and value to the knowledge acquired in their search for the essence of music interpretation.

The flexibility of choice in music genres was the cornerstone of the SYMPhoenix concerts, which brought together the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra and the famous band Phoenix between 2010 and 2011 or in the joint-projects which involved Romanian artists of international reputation, such as the soprano Angela Gheorghiu and the violin player Corina Belcea.

The orchestra’s agenda also includes audio recordings from the future double LP signed Marcel Pavel – “Very Classic” – famous opera arias, chansonnettes and crossover. A CD collection with music composed by Mel Bonis (France), Benjamin Britten (England), Dinu Lipatti and George Enescu will be recorded by appointment of the french based label record Integral Classic and under the direction of the principal conductor Benoît Fromanger.

In 2012, the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra is invited to go on tour in Italy and Corsica, France within highly-acclaimed music festivals.

Bucharest Symphony Orchestra's Music Director, Benoît Fromanger

Benoît Fromanger has joined the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra as artistic director and principal conductor. He is involved in Salut CULTURA! because he believes that music is the link between culture, education, people and civilisation, beyond any geographical borders.

After a brilliant career as solo performer under the guidance of famous conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Leonard Bernstein, Lorin Maazel, Carlos Kleiber, Bernard Haitink and Carlo Maria Giulini, Benoît Fromanger has decided to take up a career as a conductor and has developed his skills with the support of six world-famous masters such as Rolf Reuter, Kiesler Kenneth and Valery Gergiev.

Known world-wide for his highly professional conductor skills, Benoît Fromanger shows utter respect for both musicians and the audience, generosity, passion and a unique approach to music.
