I think IDS stands (er, stood) for Information Decision Systems. That name (or something similar) is plastered on one wall inside the building. Then again, I can't really find any info via Google linking the two names together, so I don't know for certain (and my memory might just be playing tricks on me). —Mulad 14:31, 19 Jul 2004 (UTC)

The IDS company that built and occupied the tower for many years was Investors' Diversified Services (IDS). That company was bought by American Express in the 80's and renamed American Express Financial Advisors in the 90's. There is a 7/14/04 Star Tribune article that mentions a company called Decision Systems which is located in the IDS tower changing its name recently to International Decision Systems to gain the IDS acronym.
