Tsai Capital

Tsai Capital Corporation is a fund management firm, based in Manhatten, New York. It was founded by Christopher Tsai in 1997 to follow a value investing approach, looking for long-term investments in growing, non-cyclical businesses with conservative balance sheets[1].

The model relies on extensive research into the business operations and balance sheets, and as such, the portfolio has a comparatively low asset turn-over[2].

In 2011, Tsai Capital launched a hedge fund with between 20-25 long positions. Around two-thirds of the fund's exposure is international, the other third being based on north American investments. [3]

Performance

Between 2000 and 2005, investors in Tsai Capital saw a cumulative return of 71% on their investments, far out-performing both Standard & Poor’s and Russell’s 1000 Growth Index, which saw loses over the same period. The portfolio of 19 large-cap accounts was subsequently awarded a coveted four-star rating by investment research firm Morningstar, Inc. [4].
