Heath McIvor is an Australian puppeteer known primarily for his role as Randy, a purple puppet in the comedy duo Sammy J & Randy. Their most recent show to date is 'The Inheritance' which is currently running at the 2012 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. [1]

Career

Heath McIvor entered into puppetry at the age of 17. Since 2002 Heath has been performing with Melbourne children's theatre company Polyglot Theatre.[2] He provided puppetry work for The Hobbit, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Walking With Dinosaurs, the Live Experience.[3] Heath has also worked in television on Pigs Breakfast, Li'l Horrors, Fiend in Me and my Monsters and Good News Week.[4]

Heath teamed up with comedian Sammy J in 2008 to write and perform in 'Sammy J in the Forest of Dreams'. The show won the Age Critics Award at the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival and sold out at the 2008 and 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.[5] It was also brought out on DVD and screened on The Comedy Channel in Australia in June 2010.[6]

After success with 'Sammy J in the Forest of Dreams', Randy chose to pursue comedy and performed in Randy's Postcards From Purgatory for the 2009 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.[7] The show was also performed at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was completely sold out.[8]

Heath chose to reprise his role of Randy with Sammy J in 2010 where he wrote and performed in 'Sammy J and Randy in Ricketts Lane', receiving the Barry Award for best show at the 2010 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.[9] The show was also performed at the Sydney opera house where it sold out.

In 2011 they performed together in the show 'Bin Night' played to sold out houses at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Sydney Comedy Festival.[10] Heath (as Randy) and Sammy J are currently performing their new show 'The Inheritance' at the 2012 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.[11]
