The Ashton Gate Eight were a group of Bristol City players who , in 1982, following relegation to the Fourth Division, accepted voluntary redundancy rather than see the club fold .[1]

The players who took this offer were :

The club had suffered three relegations in three seasons , at the time the first club to do so , and many of these players had been offered long , valuable contracts when the club had greater financial resources .

The action of the eight allowed liabilities to be reduced and a new company BCFC (1982) PLC to be set up and take control of the club .
