[Strine Australian slang] term for a type of unfashionable lower-class Australian culture common in deprived urban areas. It originated in Melbourne, whereas other equivalents are westie in Sydney (referring to Western Suburbs) and bevan in Brisbane.

Common bogan style involves wearing ugg boots and flanelette shirts, driving loud, obnoxious cars and drinking bourbon and other cheap, strong liquor.
