Centre for the Study of Civil War (CSCW) is a Norwegian Centre of Excellence under a Research Council of Norway funding scheme. The Centre was created in 2003 with funding for 5+5 years culminating in 2012. It is a part of The Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), but with wide autonomy.

Director of the Centre is Scott Gates. The board at PRIO also acts as a board for the Centre.

Key researchers at the Centre are Jeffrey T. Checkel, Jon Elster, Halvard Buhaug, Sabine Carey, Karl Ove Moene, Ola Listhaug, Håvard Hegre and Kaare Strøm. All of which lead a working group at the Centre. Other core researchers at the centre are Nils Petter Gleditsch and Henrik Urdal.
