Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy is the fiancée of the Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg and is slated to become, as his consort, the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg when her future husband succeeds to the crown. She became engaged to Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg on 27th April 2012. While he remains the heir apparent, upon marriage she will bear the title Hereditary Grand Duchess of Luxembourg.

Early life

Stéphanie de Lannoy was born on 18 February 1984 in Ronse, East Flanders. She is the youngest daughter of Count Philippe de Lannoy and Alix della Faille de Leverghem. She has seven siblings. She grew up on the family estate, the Château d'Anvaing.

The House of Lannoy has been traced back to the 13th century nobility of Hainaut, its members distinguishing themselves in military command and affairs of state. Those descended from Charles de Lannoy, the victor of Pavia held the Imperial title of count/countess from 1526.[1] Stéphanie descends, through the cadet branch of the lords of Motterie, from the earliest known member of the family, Baudouin de Laval, who died c. 1301, having flourished at Lille. Since the beginning of the 19th century her ancestors have usually also been burgomasters of Anvaing. Stéphanie's, paternal grandmother, née Princess Beatrice de Ligne, (1898-1982), was a daughter of Ernest, 10th Prince de Ligne, head of one of Belgium's most historically powerful families. Stéphanie's maternal grandparents, Harold della Faille de Leverghem and Madeleine de Brouchoven de Bergeyck, were also members of Belgium's titled nobility belonging, respectively, to a baronial and to a comital family.

Stéphanie attended the Sancta Maria de Ronse school, and later moved to France to continue her education in Collège Saint-Odile. She then returned to Brussels for studies at L'Institut de la Vierge Fidèle.

She moved to Moscow where she studied Russian language and literature. She majored in German philology at Louvain-la-Neuve and also earned a master's degree in Berlin. During her master's program, she interned at L'Agence wallonne à l'Exportation in Berlin.

She speaks French, Dutch, English, German and Russian. She is interested in music, foreign languages and sports such as swimming or skiing.

Engagement

Guillaume and Stéphanie dated for about two years prior to their engagement. The betrothal was announced on 26th April 2012. Distant cousins, they share multiple descents from the Austrian fieldmarshal Charles Marie Raymond, Duke of Arenberg.

The wedding is announced to happen on 20th October 2012. [2]
