Ramanputhoor is a suburb of Nagercoil in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu.

It is located at 8°10′13″N 77°25′32″E / 8.17028°N 77.42556°E / 8.17028; 77.42556.

Educational institutions

Ramanputhoor is the educational hub of Nagercoil. There are two schools in the area, namely, Carmel Higher secondary School and Little Flower Higher secondary School,Also its located around 1.5 km from the district capital Nagercoil. There is a famous catholic church Holy Family Church, which is the second largest parish in the Kottar diocese & third in revenue.suburb

Interesting facts

Ramanputhoor is an almost a 100% catholic area of Nagercoil. Interestingly the place is named after Lord Ram the famous Hindu God. Elders of the area believe that this Hindu place was converted to Christianity when St Xavier visited here in the fifteenth century.Other important institutions include Rita's convent run by nuns where working women are also provided boarding.There are several nursing homes in the area thanks to many locals who studied medicine in the 70s and later.Ramanputhoor also used to be well known for construction workers who used to gather here in the morning before proceeding on day's work.Some of the well known personalities of the place Dr Mariya Johnson, Thirupapu (who got first grand award for native doctor from President of India) family members, Dr Dorothy (Paediatrician,Brooklyn Hospital NY) Mervin Alexander, CEO, Technopark, Trivandrum, Dr. Henry Louis PhD, agricultural scientist credited with co-creating the hybrid variety of coconut palm and Ln. Er.I. Nicholas, Chief Engineer, Maharashtra State Seeds Corporation.
