"Day by Day" is a song by South Korean girl group T-ara, from their fourth extended play of the same name. The song was written by Kim Tae-hyun and composed by Cho Young-soo and Ahn Young-min.[1] "Day by Day" was released as the lead single from the album on July 3, 2012.
Background
"Day by Day" was written by Kim Tae-hyun and produced by Cho Young-soo and Ahn Young-min,[1] who have all previously worked with T-ara on songs such as "Cry Cry" and "Neo Ttaemune Michyeo". Before its official release, a choreography video in which "Day by Day" can be heard in was leaked onto YouTube in late May 2012.[2] The official music video teaser for the song was released on June 28, 2012.
Music video
Background and development
The music video for "Day by Day" was directed by Cha Eun-taek in Seoul, South Korea. It was announced on June 12, 2012, as a 20-minute music video drama starring the group themselves in a science-fiction setting;[3] reminiscent of the movie Mad Max.[4] The first shots from the music video set were released on June 15, featuring members Dani and Hyomin.[4] On June 16, Hyomin tweeted: "Shooting 'Day by Day' music video at the moment~Today's scene involves a bike^^"[5] (Korean: "day by day 뮤비 촬영중~ 오늘은 바이크를^^"),[6] with a photo of herself with bright red hair; sitting on a motorcycle. A large amount of work was needed to complete the computer graphics featured in the video, which caused its release to be delayed by 13 hours.[7]
Video (Part 1)
This MV is set in a post-apocalyptic world where Jiyeon is cast as the villain. She is determined to take over the world but then finds out that Dani, a blind girl, has supernatural powers (some form of telepathy and telekinesis) that can stop her. Jiyeon begins to ask people about Dani, and slaughters them if they cannot help her. Meanwhile Dani and Hyomin (Dani's sister) are on the run from Jiyeon and her gang, hiding in various areas. While out riding on Hyomin's motorcycle, they are ambushed by Jiyeon and her gang, who kidnap Dani and brutally beat Hyomin as she attempts to fight back, eventually stabbing her several times with her sword and leaving her to die. Jiyeon, who has imprisoned Dani in a cage, comes to visit her and gets Dani to touch her face. Dani's eyes flash blue, she causes a nearby piece of glass to shatter and she recoils as Jiyeon smiles. Meanwhile, Hyomin is rescued by a strange man who takes her to a safe house and laid on a table with several wires protruding from her body, which pump chemicals into her body.
6 years have passed, and Jiyeon is using Dani's powers as a weapon (restraining her in a full body suit, helmet and chains) and is apparently about to kill her when Hyomin suddenly wakes up from her slumber.
The second part is due to be released sometime in August 2012, and will introduce Eunjung as a mysterious swordswoman who joins Hyomin on her journey.
