ATTO Technology is a manufacturer of storage connectivity and infrastructure solutions for data-intensive computing environments. ATTO manufactures host bus adapters, RAID adapters, Fibre Channel switches, protocol conversion bridges, RAID storage controllers, Mac OS X iSCSI initiator software and acceleration software with storage interface connectivity to SCSI, SATA, SAS, Fibre Channel, FCoE, Thunderbolt and iSCSI.

History

The company was founded in 1988 by Timothy J. Klein and David A. Snell and is headquartered in Amherst, New York. All of ATTO's products are engineered and manufactured in the United States and ATTO has delivered more than an estimated 2 million products to the market in a broad range of storage applications and environments.

Areas of operation

ATTO products are sold directly to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), ODMs, White Box Systems Integrators as well as through ATTO authorized distributors and resellers. ATTO OEM customers encompass a wide range of technology companies including Apple Computer, EMC, Data General, Eastman Kodak, Quantum, Oracle/SUN, Avid Technology, Overland Storage, NEC, Seachange, Autodesk, Unisys and many more.

ATTOs products are available worldwide in countries which include: United States, Canada, Mexico, Latin & South America, Australia, New Zealand, China, Korea, South West Asia (India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka), Taiwan, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Japan.

Products

Products include: Acceleration Software, RAID Adapters, and Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) (4Gb and 8Gb Fibre Channel, 10GbE FCoE, Ultra320 SCSI, 3Gb and 6Gb SAS, 3Gb SATA and 1GbE and 10GbE iSCSI), sometimes called Storage Adapters or Host Adapters.

Other products include: RAID Storage Controllers—self-contained hardware that add RAID protection for stored data to SAS, SATA or Fibre Channel JBOD Storage Enclosures. RAID storage controllers also provide a single point of management for shared (networked) storage. RAID controllers are ideal for high-bandwidth applications such as video and IT environments.

Connectivity for all-in-one, Laptop and small form factor systems which lack PCIe slots are served with their desklink devices. These current support Thunderbolt to Fibre Channel, SAS/SATA or 10Gb Ethernet.

Protocol conversion products, called Bridges, convert one protocol to another while adding cutting edge monitoring and management features, for example: Fibre Channel to SAS/SATA, iSCSI to SAS/SATA, Fibre Channel to iSCSI or Fibre Channel to SCSI.

Switches are also offered which provide 8, 16 or 24 8Gb Fibre Channel ports to enable an end to end SAN solution when using Fibre Channel HBAs.

Enables Storage Connectivity

ATTO is the only company which offers Enterprise level multipathing, load balancing and failover for Windows desktop operating systems (XP, Vista and 7) plus Apple Mac OS X which enables users with these operating systems to access Enterprise class storage from the likes of EMC, HP, NetApp, Dot Hill and Xyratex. This opened up new markets for Tier 1 storage OEM's to address and connect to workstation operating systems.

Industry Standard Software

ATTO provides a free Disk Benchmark tool which is used among storage industry companies including drive manufacturers, system builders and home users who want to make sure their products are highly tuned and performing at their best. A search for this tool will generate tens of thousands of results where users will post their benchmark results.

Applications

  • Storage-intensive applications such as database management, online transaction processing (OLTP), email, Internet serving and document management solutions.
  • Streaming media applications such as digital video (NLE), digital audio, film, broadcast and video-on-demand solutions.
  • Image-intensive applications such as mapping, pre-press, publishing, printing, CAD/CAM, medical and document imaging.
  • Server environments for direct attach and/or network attached storage such as SAN and NAS with disk, tape, optical, CD or other storage media.
  • Enterprise backup environments such as tape library connectivity, disk-based backup and serverless backup solutions.
  • Connecting SAS and/or SATA disk storage to Fibre Channel Storage Area Networks.
  • Connecting SAS tape storage to Fibre Channel or iSCSI Storage Area Networks.
