Christina DeGiovanni was born in San Diego, California and enjoyed the first decade of her life there. When she was ten, her family moved to Austin, Texas where Christina attended two years of elementary school, three years of middle school and one year of High School. When Christina was 14, she was fortunate enough to attend a private all-girls boarding school in New jersey. It was there where Christina truly emerged into the young professional she is today.

Christina DeGiovanni earned her Bachelor's degree from Humboldt State University in the field of Journalism. During Christina's four years in college she worked extensively in both the television industry and in the field of education. By the time Christina graduated from college she had already started her own publication, was nominated to join the Peace Corps and was accepted to Tel Aviv Univeristy in Tel Aviv, Israel to study Political Science.

Currently, Christina DeGiovanni owns the Emerald magazine. The Emerald is a quarterly magazine that circulates throughout Humboldt County and is distributed at over 30 locations. The Emerald brings readers a variety of leisure and community activities that features content based around local events, activities, cuisines, businesses and entrepreneurs.

Editor & Owner at The Emerald Magazine February 2012 - Present | Humboldt County The Emerald Magazine is a local community magazine that showcases Humboldt County. The Emerald covers a variety of entertainment, outdoor activities, cuisines, local businesses and entrepreneurs. The Emerald magazine brings its readers stories and photos of the best that Humboldt County has to offer.


Intern at KEET-TV August 2010 - May 2012 | Eureka, CA Intern at Humboldt County’s PBS station, KEET-TV Channel 13. Tasks performed included operating the server, maneuvering cameras, filming live shows, answering phones, performing on live auction, floor directing, working graphics, switching servers, operating the audio board and assisting the station manager.


Intern at KHSU January 2012 - May 2012 | Arcata, CA Volunteer at the local National Public Radio station. Duties include using Adobe Audition, recording the community calendar, interviewed the district attorney, stuffing envelopes and answering phones calls during the pledge drive.


Disc Jockey at KRFH August 2011 - May 2012 | Arcata, CA Hosted a two hour radio show every week on Humboldt State University's student run radio, KRFH. Duties performed included updating listeners with current news, operating the soundboard, answering calls, transferring listeners on air, awarded prizes and hosted guest speakers.


Tutor at Jacoby Creek School August 2011 - December 2011 | Arcata, CA Literacy tutor for students in the schools resource center. Language Arts and English assignments included spelling, vocabulary, reading, writing and basic grammar.


ESL Tutor at Zane Middle School October 2011 - December 2011 | Eureka, CA Tutored students in level I and II ESL classes. Activities and material included singular and plural nouns, verb tenses, conjugation, pronunciation and he/she/it sentence structures.


Volunteer Tutor through Youth Educational Services via Humboldt State University August 2010 - May 2012 | Throughout Humboldt County The YES program is Humboldt State University's tutoring service offering local residents and surrounding elementary, middle and high schoolers with free tutorials in Math, English, Geography, History and occasionally Science.


Peer-to-Peer English Tutor at International English Language Institute via Humboldt State University August 2011 - December 2011 | Arcata, CA Tutored for a multi-level English program designed for students planning to enter American colleges or universities. Responsibilities included working one-on-one with a male student from Saudi Arabia. Exercises included acclimating him to American culture by working on dialect, communication and comprehension.


Tutor at Arcata Elementary School January 2011 - May 2011 | Arcata, CA Tutored 4th grade students in English and Math. Activities included daily math warm-ups accompanied by individual attention to struggling students. English and Geography were also subjects the students were assisted in. Responsibilities also included leading group learning sessions, center activities and study hall.


After School Tutor at Sunny Brae Middle School August 2010 - December 2010 | Arcata, CA Tutored students during after school hours who struggled in English, Math and Science.

Christina DeGiovanni's Interests & Activities

Christina DeGiovanni is extremely interested in the field of Journalism. Her magazine has already made it's debut throughout Humboldt County where it continues to grow in popularity everyday. Christina's love of public relations, politics and journalism will eventually lead her to graduate school, where she has already been accepted to study Political Science at Tel Aviv University in Israel. Christina's family heritage originates from Milano, Italy near the town of Giovanni (hence De Giovanni, meaning "Of John"). As most Roman Catholics do, Christina adopted the middle name 'Elizabeth' upon receiving her confirmation. Christina DeGiovanni became Christina Elizabeth DeGiovanni in March of 2005.
