The West Barnstable Station, located on Route 149 in West Barnstable, Massachusetts. It is the only station remaining on the old Old Colony Railroad route on Cape Cod that is in use for tourism, and is one of the last two stations remaining on Cape Cod that had been built by the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad, with the other one being the Buzzards Bay Train Station. It was used for Amtrak's "Cape Codder". The station currently serves as a seasonal stop Saturdays for the Cape Cod Central Railroad.
The station was built in 1911 and is owned by the Town of Barnstable, Massachusetts. The Cape Cod Chapter, National Railway Historical Society [www.capecodnrhs.org], holds a long term lease and is in the process of restoring the building as a historical train museum. The station is open Saturdays May through October from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and also hosts numerous community events, including the West Barnstable village festival in August and the Cranberry Express in October and the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce's North Pole Express in December.
