Du Du (杜度)
[edit]Du Du was born in Beijing on October 20, 1941. He was growing in an intellectual family. His parents received college education and were both well-respected professionals. Du Du is the second son of four siblings.
1955, Du Du was selected to the gymnastics team of Beijing Shi-Sha-Hai Amateur Sports School.
1956, Du Du was transferred to the diving team of Beijing Youth Amateur Sports School.
1957, Du Du was chosen to Naval Diving Team and started his professional athletic career.
1969, China established the national diving team, Du Du was appointed as the first national team’s diving coach by the Training Council of National Sports Committee.
1975, Du Du returned to Naval Diving Team and served as the Chief Coach and the Director until his retirement.
Diving
[edit]In last century, Du Du was one of the best male divers in China from 1950s to 1970s. For almost 20 years, Du Du kept his records at top three of both men’s springboard and platform in every national diving competition. During that period, he represented China in various international diving competitions domestic or abroad. In 1963 Du Du attended the Games of the New Emerging Forces (GANEFO) in Jakarta and won a Bronze medal of the men’s platform. In 1964, he won the men’s platform champion at the GANEFO diving competition. In 1966, he won two Silver medals of both men’s springboard and platform in Phnom Penh at Asia GANEFO. In 1973, he won the men’s platform champion at the Yugoslav international diving competition. In 1974, he won a national champion and held a Silver medal of the men’s platform in Tehran 7th Asian Games.
Coach
[edit]As a coach of the National Diving team and the Naval Diving team, Du Du has trained more than a hundred of divers. Among his trainees, there are many excellent divers like Zhong Shaozhen who won eight national diving champions, and two gold medals of women’s springboard and platform in Tehran 7th Asian Games. Subsequently Zhong Shaozhen became outstanding diving coach of the National diving team, who instructed the world famous female diver Guo Jingjing. Shi Huiguo (Chief Coach of Shanghai diving team) and Jin Haiquan (Chief Coach of Jiang Su province diving team) are also Du Du’s students. They both have trained exceptional drivers as well.
Research
[edit]Du Du has made significant contributions in diving research and development (R&D). He participated the writing of Chinese Encyclopedia - the Diving Part of Sports Volume. He has published the following study papers:

Invention: Turnover Palm Into-water Technique
[edit]Du Du is the first diver who grasped the into-water technique of turnover palms to reduce the water pressure spray. In 1960s, from research and practice, Du Du initially developed and mastered this specific into-water technique.
In 1970’s, Du Du introduced the turnover palms into-water technology in the National Diving Coaches forum several times. Du Du explained the concept of reducing water pressure for smaller spray and provided the in depth training method.
In 1979, on the second issue of “Sports Technology”, Du Du published a research monograph of turnover palms into-water diving technology. In this paper, he provided comprehensive theory with diagrams and detailed training steps. Prior to Du Du’s research paper, there were no articles or discussions on this specific into-water technique in the world. Du Du is the first person to invent this diving technology.
Nowadays, this specific turnover palms into-water technology has been adapted by the outstanding diving athletes worldwide. In 1999, CCTV introduced Du Du’s turnover palms to push into water technology in the special program for the 50th Anniversary of New China Sport. In 2009, the sports channel of CCTV produced a special program “Sports World” for the 60 anniversary of New China. In the diving part, Du Du’s specific contribution of turnover palms into-water technique was reported again.

[edit]杜度,1941年10月20日出生于北京。生长在一个知识分子家庭(父母都是大学毕业并从事教育工作),所以,从小就受到了良好的家庭教育。
杜度从上个世纪50年代至70年代是中国最优秀的男子跳水运动员之一,在这期间,代表中国参加了所有的外国跳水队来访和出国参赛的国际跳水比赛,1963年在雅加达获新兴力量运动会男子跳台第三名,1964年,获新兴力量游泳跳水锦标赛男子跳台冠军,1966年在金边亚新会获男子板台两项亚军,1973年获南斯拉夫跳水比赛男台冠军,1974年在德黑兰举行的地7届亚运会上获男子跳台亚军。在历届全国跳水比赛中,均获得男子跳台和跳板两项前三名,1974年获冠军。
在国家跳水队和八一跳水队担任教练工作后,培养了多名出色的跳水运动员,其后成为优秀的跳水教练员,其中八名获得了全国跳水冠军,钟少珍获得第7届亚运会女子跳板,跳台两项冠军,是郭晶晶的教练。史惠国成为上海跳水队总教练,金海泉成为江苏跳水队的总教练。
杜度重视跳水理论的研究,曾参加撰写《中国大百科全书》中“体育卷,跳水栏目”,《中国体育年鉴》中的“中国跳水发展简史”。并在《中国体育科技》上发表了“跳水运动员的心理状态和自我控制”,“跳水运动员心理训练初探”等多篇论文。杜度是最早掌握“翻掌压水花入水技术”的跳水运动员,上世纪六十年代通过研究和实践已经初步掌握了这种入水技术,被誉为“翻掌压水花入水技术”的第一人。七十年代,多次在全国跳水教练员座谈会上介绍这种技术的原理与训练方法,并在1979年第2期《体育科技》上发表了“翻掌压水花的入水技术”的专题论文,从理论上和实际训练方面做了详细的论述。在此之前尚未见到过有关“翻掌压水花入水技术”的文章和论述。现在这种压水花的入水技术已被全世界的优秀跳水运动员所掌握。1999年中央电视台在“新中国体育五十周年”的大型节目中对此作了报道,2009年,中央电视台体育频道在《体育人间》栏目中播出新中国成立60周年特别节目《岁月纪事》,其中跳水部分,又以较大的篇幅报道了“翻掌压水花的入水技术”。
