Quintola
The Quintola is a stringed instrument. It has 5 strings in 5 courses and is tuned C3, G3, D4, A4, E5. It was developed from the electric 5 string mandolin in the United Kingdom during the late 20th century. Unlike the electric 5 string mandolin, the Quintola is completely acoustic and has nylon strings. It has a softer tone than a traditional mandolin or an electric mandolin. [1]
Mandele
The Mandele is a similar instrument developed by Cincygrass Music in the United States in 2008. It was designed purely as an acoustic version of the 5 string electric mandolin, and like that instrument has steel strings, unlike the nylon strings of the Quintola. [2]
