Agave striata |
Native to Northeastern Mexico, Agave striata is a strikingly globular member of the Agavaceae family.
Description
The strikingly spherical shape of the A. striata rosette makes it a stand-out. Borne on a short stem, the sphere of the plant consists of hundreds of thin leaves, 2 feet long and 0.4 inches wide, sticking straight out or arching gently upward toward the centre of the plant, and each ending in a very sharp, brown and black spine. The flower spike is 10 feet tall and bears whitish yellow flowers. of a 1.2-1.6 diameter. In the wild, offsetting results in thick clusters of plants growing to form inpenetrable thickets.
Cultivation
Likes an open, sunny position for Summer. For its large size, cultivate it in a large container or allow it to grow in open soil. Easily propagated by offsetting.
