Sutter Brown (born September 24, 2003) is the pet dog of the Brown family, First Family of the State of California, Governor Jerry Brown and First Lady, Anne Gust Brown.[1][2] The Welsh corgi is originally from Ketchum, ID and gets his name from the early Sacramento settler, John Sutter. Sutter was first owned by Kathleen Brown who gave the pet to her Brother after he won the 2010 California gubernatorial election.

Breed Background

The Pembroke is one of the two breeds of Welsh Corgis. These dogs differ from the Cardigan breed in many ways. The Cardigan being the larger of the two, with a longer tail and rounded ears while the pembrokes are smaller with pointed ears.

Official introduction

Sutter was formally introduced to the press on February 15, 2011 by the Anne Gust Brown in front of the California State Capitol with: "he's going to herd the budget vote."

Judy Lin of the Associated Press reported that the addition of the pet, .."has emerged as the warm-and-fuzzy counterpoint to the often blunt demeanor of the veteran Democratic politician, and his scratch-me-on-the-belly playfulness has disarmed even the governor's most persistent political foes during the sometimes-testy discussions over how to close the state's $27 billion deficit". Sutter has a Facbook page, Twitter account[1] and a page on the Governor's website.
