Elizabeth "Beth" Winslet (born May 1978) is an English actress.
She was born in Reading, Berkshire, and is the younger sister of Anna Winslet and Kate Winslet.
Early life
Born in Reading, Berkshire, Winslet is the third of four children born to Sally Anne (née Bridges), a barmaid, and Roger John Winslet, a swimming pool contractor.[1][2] Her parents were "jobbing actors".[3] Her maternal grandparents, Linda (née Plumb) and Oliver Bridges, founded and operated the Reading Repertory Theatre,[3] and her uncle, Robert Bridges, appeared in the original West End production of Oliver!. Her older sisters, Anna, and, Kate, are also actresses.[3] Her younger brother, Joss, is the only sibling who did not pursue an acting career.[2]
She attended Starmaker Theatre Company in Reading, Berkshire.[4] Beth was a member of the National Youth Theatre with Charlotte Reather. They are still friends and perform regularly together as part of the Gum! Gum! sketch troupe along with Marc Elliot and Jon Olney.
She also attended Meadway Secondary School in Tilehurst, Reading until 1997.
Career
She made her TV debut at 19 in the BBC Television drama The Scold's Bridle, playing a drug addict's daughter opposite Miranda Richardson.[4]
She won the Best Actress award at the 2010 PollyGrind Film Festival for her role as The Femme Fatale in the short Stiletto. She also wanted to be in the film Titanic but her sister Kate got the part as Rose Dewitt Bukater.
Personal life
Beth has a son, George Bryn Mawr Winslet Jones (born November 2000) with Gareth Rhys Jones.
On 14 January 2009, she gave birth to a daughter, Pearl. Pearl was born healthy, and her father was photographer Henry Steedman.
