Hadrianopolis

Hadrianopolis or Hadrianoupolis or Adrianopolis (Greek: Ἁδριανούπολις) was the name of numerous cities in the ancient world, named after the Roman Emperor Hadrian, including:

  • Hadrianopolis, also called Uskudama or Uscudama or Uskadama or Uskodama, Odrysa or Odrysia or Odrysos, Orestias or Orestia, and Adrianople, now Edirne in Thrace (European Turkey)
  • Hadrianopolis in Bithynia, north-western Anatolia (Asian Turkey)
  • Hadrianopolis, later Justinianopolis, now known as Dropull in southern Albania
  • Hadrianopolis, also called Hadriane, in the Cyrenaicene Pentapolis, near modern Deriana in eastern Libya
  • Hadrianopolis in Pisidia, southern Anatolia
  • Hadrianopolis, also called Cabeira, Diospolis, Neocaesarea, and Sebaste, in Pontus; now Niksar, northern Anatolia
  • Hadrianopolis in Cilicia, an ancient city, now Mersin in Turkey
