Citations for the blindingly obvious

I found this page with a "citations needed" tag on it dating back to 2009.

I find the idea that citations are needed is absurd for facts that anyone can confirm by simple observation of extremely common everday objects.

The present state of the page, using patents to provide evidence that confirms those simple, easily performed observations of extremely common objects, can be seen two ways: as scholarship and as satire.

I cheerfully accept both interpretations.
