Window-Eyes is a screen reader for Microsoft Windows, developed by GW Micro. The first version was released in 1995. The latest version of Window-Eyes is 7.5.4.1, released on April 23, 2012
Features
Window-Eyes is an alternative to another screen reader Jaws. It is a very good alternative according to many people in the blind and visually impaired community. Window-Eyes is compatible with the following operating systems: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.[1] Window-Eyes 7 added support for industry standard scripting which can be used to modify specific settings in Window-Eyes, monitor portions of the screen for certain kinds of activity, define hotkeys, and automate repetitive tasks. But it is not yet compatible with windows 8.[2]
History
Window-Eyes is developed by GW Micro, a company based in Fort Wayne, Indiana.[1] Window-Eyes is currently available in 14 languages and the English version includes nine text-to-speech languages including: US English, UK English, Castilian Spanish, Mexican Spanish, French, Canadian French, German, Italian, and Portuguese.[3]
