Aljazeera Sport Channel

Aljazeera Sport is an Arabic channel broadcasting from the State of Qatar, which relies on neutrality and objectivity in delivering its subjects, in addition to transparency and being unprejudiced when viewing and receiving all opinions along with providing an exact and an honest coverage, while deriving its name and belief from the name Aljazeera and its context, to be then integrated with the components of the Aljazeera Network. The General Manager of Aljazeera Satellite TV Network issued the decision to establish Aljazeera Sport on the 5th August 2003, and the early transmission started as of the 30th August 2003, which was limited to the La Liga league on Saturdays and Sundays of each week. Saturday the 1st of November 2003, was the actual date of the official transmission, the date which also coincided with the 7th annual launch of Aljazeera News Channel.

Our Vision

The Aljazeera Sport Channel emerged from a clear and thoroughly identified international and humanitarian vision, which connotes that sport is a global language bypassing the limits of viewpoints and differences among human beings on the globe. The role of sport should not be limited to playgrounds, competition schedules and podiums, but to spread out and advance to form a bridge for dialogue, convergence, understanding, respect and acceptance of others in addition to effective contribution to solve humanitarian conflicts and achieve world peacemaking.

There is no doubt that the attainment of such objective requires a high level of professionalism, modernism, objectivity, openness, neutrality, and commitment to employ the latest High-Tech in this field.

The Mission

Aljazeera Sport is an Arabic and international broadcasting channel which holds a clear vision and a certain orientation pertaining to sportive media, and seeks to climb high into reaching a leadership role in this area, and to become the main source for all the ones interested in sport among the Arab speaking audience from different ages and interests.


In order to translate this vision into a concrete reality, Aljazeera Sport has adopted a strategy which seeks to achieve a set of objectives which includes:

  • To contribute in spreading and rooting sports culture among the Arab audience.
  • Addressing the issues of Arabic sport in an organized scientific manner in terms of diagnosis, analysis and producing solutions and alternatives.
  • To work towards developing the Arabic televised media sport in a cognitive and a practical method.
  • To cover Arabic and international sporting events at the highest possible level of professionalism, objectivity, and neutrality.
  • To contribute to framing a cognitive Arabic sport which is characterized with clarity and singularity that would shape an important addition to global thinking in this field.


We are moving forward out of believing that the Arabic viewer needs today, more than ever, a media which respects him and introduces a positive service that responds to his aspirations and gives him the chance to widen his sport culture in a respectful manner while using a sound language away from artificial suspense. In this framework, we are seeking to raise the awareness amongst our viewers and to instill healthy sport pillars away from discrimination and prejudice due to our belief in the globalism of the message behind sport and that it should be based on a decent sport media.

Whilst satellites are governed with specific techniques that do not take into consideration the political boundaries of countries, but often rely on covering parts of continents, which often results in the necessity of transmission overlapping in order to have more than one satellite covering certain areas.

Since the televised broadcast, and in specific sportive, is governed with many regulations and rules organizing its rights, this has resulted in a contradiction of broadcast rights between many parties in specific areas. All these factors have forced Aljazeera Network to deal with encoding as a reality that cannot be bypassed. Encoding is not our first choice and it is also not the ideal one, and we would never use it for exploiting the viewer and it would never be counted at the expense of the viewer. The relationship with the viewer should be based on mutual interest. We will work on employing all our capabilities to enable the viewer to enjoy watching sportive events instantly while having the superlative conditions for that to happen. The viewer from our point of view is the capital of which must be preserved and protected, and therefore, investment is aimed on his mind and heart in the first place.

The programs we offer reflect supreme media objectives and are characterized by diversity and inclusiveness within the framework of respecting the mind and the thoughts of the viewer in addition to considering him as a participant and a contributor but not as a consumer, and that is being implemented by a group of qualified, talented and experienced personnel in all areas of the sportive media and televised work.
