Gilles Kepel is a prominent French scholar and analyst of the Islamic and the Arab world. He has written works on Radical Islam including Jihad: The Trail of Political Islam.

His recent books received some criticism in the US for being too dismissive of the threat of Islamism or too critical of the US^{[citation needed]}.
