In Stargate SG-1, a television series based upon the 1994 science fiction movie Stargate, Chulak (Stargate Address: Template:Milky Way Gate Address) is a fictional planet orbiting a binary star system.

Chulak was the homeworld of the System Lord Apophis. When Apophis was seemingly killed in a raid on Earth the people of Chulak were thrown into a tenuous situation, unsure whether they were still under the control of Apophis, or his son Klorel, or if they were free Jaffa. Teal'c recovered a Jaffa ship from Chulak during this period to rescue the rest of SG-1.

Little is known about how successful Teal'c was in setting the Jaffa of Chulak free, although since the destruction of Apophis no Goa'uld has stepped up to reclaim Chulak, and it is currently a free planet. SG-1 sometimes comes back to Chulak to meet Bra'tac and Rya'c (respectively Teal'c's Master and son). Jaffa rebels are also potential allies to fight the Goa'uld system lords. When Apophis took control of Sokar's domain he committed several deadly attacks on the people of Chulak as punishment for turning their back on him.

Chulak is smaller than Earth, and has a 21 hour day. It has two suns, Chaaporis and Dennal, and one moon, Jerbaas. There are three continents and several island chains. [citation needed]

By Season 9, Chulak was a major Free-Jaffa Stronghold

In an alternate reality, Chulak was destroyed by the Ori and in another alternate reality in "There But For the Grace of God", it was destroyed by the alternate universe counterpart of Stargate Command, the Stargate Association (SGA)[citation needed] after Daniel gave the coordinates of the planet.

Important Places

Chulak is also the name of the only city on the planet. It is built in a Grecian style, presumably because the original immigrants were from Greece.

The Stargate on Chulak is kept in a forest, and Jaffa take spiritual pilgrimages there after achieving tel'hak'mokar enlightenment.

The Temple of the Gods is essentially a Goa'uld vacation resort. Perhaps the most decadent place in the galaxy, system lords come to the temple to be pampered by hundreds of Jaffa slaves. Inside the temple is the Room of Transference, where young Goa'uld are implanted into their hosts.

The Hall of Recording is where the records of the Jaffa are kept. Like most Goa'uld-dominated planets, the people of Chulak are forbidden from reading or writing except for an elite priesthood. The records contain dates of Goa'uld visits and implantations.

Trivia

In the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode Field of Fire, the Vulcan killer is called Chu'lak, a homage to the SG-1 planet.
