Argyle International Airport is a future international airport that is currently under construction in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The groundbreaking took place in 2008, and the facility is expected to be completed by late 2013. The airport will cost around $240 million, and will replace the existing E.T. Joshua Airport, increasing passenger capacity by nearly four times compared to the older facility.[2]

Overview

The island nation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines recently realized that tourist, visitors and Vincentians find it a struggle to get to Saint Vincent, as they often have to get connecting flights to E.T. Joshua Airport through different islands, mainly Barbados (Grantley Adams International Airport), St. Lucia (Hewanorra International Airport) and Grenada (Maurice Bishop International Airport). Saint Vincent had ideas about expanding the E.T. Joshua Airport but soon realized that it would be extremely hard to extend the runways and building space. The two other sites that were recommended were Argyle on the eastern side of the island and Kitchen to the southeast. Eventually Argyle was decided upon to be the home of the new International Airport and work began on 8 August 2008. Many countries are helping with the building of the airport, including Cuba, Turkey, Iran, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, Austria and Mexico. The runway is expected to be around 9,000 and feet long and 150 feet wide. The Argyle International Airport date is set to open for early 2014.

For more information you can check out the International Airport Development company (IADC) http://svgiadc.com/ The International Airport Development Company Limited (IADC) is a wholly owned government limited liability company, which was incorporated on 24 November 2004 under the Companies Act of 1994. The IADC is set up primarily to arrange the effective management of the completion of the international airport, and to secure its financing and construction at Argyle. The company is governed by an 11 member Board of Directors and is managed by a group of professionals headed by CEO Dr. Rudolph Matthias. The company is mandated to see the completion of the international airport at Argyle by the end of December 2013 and to begin training persons who would eventually manage the airport on its completion. The workers at the site are grouped under an umbrella called the Chatoyer-Che contingent, made up of Cuban and Vincentian workers. The IADC is located on site at Argyle, for easier management and supervision of all works.

The project has cost $240 million.[3]
