His father, Evgeny Namestnikov,[2] was a player for the Vancouver Canucks and also played for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod; his mother is Vyacheslav Kozlov's sister.[3] His uncle Ivan Novoseltsev is also a hockey player. The family emigrated to the United States in 1993 when Vladislav was eight months old, initially arriving in Salt Lake City.[1] When he was eight, he returned to Voskresensk to hone his skills[2] eventually playing in the Russian Major League with Khimik Voskresensk at age 16.[2][4] He was picked by the London Knights 20th in the 2010 Ontario Hockey League entry draft.[5] Namestinkov is nephew to former Detroit Red Wings Left winger Vyacheslav Koslov who was the line mate of former Detroit Red Wing and current Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman.

Namestnikov was picked 11th overall in the Kontinental Hockey League draft by Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod but has said "I'm not going back there to play."[3]
