EatOut is a company that offers an online restaurant guide and a restaurant reservations service in Kenya.[1] The online restaurant guide provides menus, reviews, virtual tours, offers and event information for consumers.[2] EatOut was founded in September 2009 by Mikul Shah.[3] Mikul is also the co-founder of SleepOut.com along with Johann Jenson.[4] EatOut is owned by Websimba Ltd and is also known as Eat Out Kenya.

EatOut launched a mobile application In June 2011 in preparation for the Pivot 25 Awards. The application allows users to access the EatOut online restaurant guide through their mobile device.[2]

Partnerships

In October 2012, Wazi WiFi, Google, and EatOut partnered to encourage restaurants to offer Wazi WiFi hotspots.[5]

EatOut also partnered with Safaricom and Kopo Kopo in April 2013 to encourage more restaurants to accept M-Pesa as a payment method.[6]

Investors

Africa Media Venture Fund (AMVF), a Dutch venture fund focused on tech-based media companies, invested in EatOut in July 2012 and holds a minority stake in the company.[7] The raised capital will be used in EatOut’s expansion into other African markets.

Other Brands

The Taste Awards are organized by EatOut's sister company, Taste Events Ltd. The awards has two sections: the Prestige Awards and the People’s Choice Awards. The first edition took place in December 2011 at Tribe Hotel.[13] The second edition took place at Karura Forest in January 2013 in partnership with Heineken.[14]

MICE at conference.co.ke was created by EatOut in 2012. MICE is an online guide for meeting facilities aimed at corporations and organizations looking for conferencing facilities in Kenya. [11]
