CubeSmart (NYSECUBE), previously known as U-Store-It Trust, is an American real estate investment trust (REIT) and provider of self-storage facilities.

History

CubeSmart was established in 2004, as a Maryland corporation. Established under the name U-Store-It Trust, the company held their initial public offering in July 2004. In December 2008, they relocated the corporate headquarters to Wayne, Pennsylvania. On September 14, 2011, the organization was renamed as CubeSmart.[1]

Facilities

At the end of 2012, the company owned 381 self-storage facilities in 22 states.[1] They also manage 133 properties for third party owners.[1][3] According to industry magazine Inside Self-Storage, CubeSmart is the fourth largest self-storage operator in the United States by total net rentable square footage.[4] By property count, they are the largest self-storage provider in the greater New York City area. Numbered among these properties encompassing 22 storage facilities overall, including 16 of which are located in the New York City boroughs of Queens, Bronx, and Brooklyn.[5]
