Gogeta is a fictional character in the animes Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT. He is a Fusion made from the fusion technique of the two Saiyans, Goku and Vegeta. He is extremely powerful, especially at Super Saiyan 4. He has a dual voice, like all fused Saiyans.

Appearance

Gogeta wears the same clothes that all creations of the Fusion Dance wear. However, Gogeta's vest has a different color scheme than Gotenks'. The padding around the neck and shoulders of the vest is reddish orange rather than yellow, and the rest is either a very dark blue or a light black. Gogeta's face, unlike that of Vegetto, looks far more like Goku than Vegeta. The hair is very similar to Vegetto's, with the difference being that Gogeta only has one bang in his hair instead of two. Gogeta also possesses Goku's body structure. Vegeta's hairline is more prominent in this fusion than in Vegetto, but still not as dramatic of a widow's peak as in Vegeta himself. Gogeta looks like a variation on Goku, and any resemblance to Vegeta other than his eyes is hard to determine.

History

Behind the dance

Gogeta is formed by the merging of the greatest Sayians ever, Goku and (the ever-reluctant) Vegeta, via the Fusion Dance. He is the second fusion performed through the Fusion Dance during the Dragonball series. He, like Gotenks, was a desperate fusion done to defeat a powerful enemy; Gogeta's enemy was Janemba, instead of Majin Buu. Unlike Gotenks, who is seen many times during the Majin Buu saga in Dragonball Z, Gogeta is seen only twice, once in Movie 12 and during the final battle of Dragonball GT. After Janemba transformed into his Super Form and became too powerful for Goku and Vegeta to handle, Goku quickly taught the Fusion Dance to Vegeta. The Fusion Dance must be performed perfectly to create a powerful warrior, so when Vegeta failed to extend his index fingers in the final step of the dance, the weak 'Fat Gogeta' or 'Veku' was created. The second time around, the Fusion Dance was performed correctly, and Gogeta was born.

Behind the fused Saiyan

According to the Elder Kai, the Fusion Dance used to form Gogeta is considered to be the inferior way to do fusion because it only lasts half an hour, as opposed to the superior Potara Fusion which lasts forever. Gogeta has the confidence and fighting smarts of Goku, along with the arrogance and brute strength of Vegeta; in other words, almost the perfect fusion. Unlike Vegetto's fusion, Goku and Vegeta's rivaly didn't make the fusion more compatible. We do not see Gogeta in his base form (other than Fat Gogeta), since Goku and Vegeta fused and powered up to Super Saiyan, making Gogeta a Super Saiyan. Like Vegetto it is unclear which one of the Saiyans is more in control (personality wise) of the fusion. Vegetto, who seems arrogant, either took this side of his personality from Vegeta or acted that way because he needed to be absorbed by Buu. Gogeta, on the other hand, doesn't seem arrogant at all, and finished his fight with Janemba quickly, other than toying with him. It therefore seems logical to assume that Goku's personality is in more control of Gogeta.

Gogeta is born

Gogeta is first seen in Movie 12 of DragonBall Z. He was a fusion born in desperation that was essential to stop the powerful monster that had escaped from Hell, known as Janemba (possibly the non-canon movie's equivalent to Majin Buu). Goku taught and trained Vegeta on how the fusion technique worked, only unlike Gotenks, it was taught rather rapidly because Goku and Vegeta had to do something to beat Janemba quickly, and didn't have time like Goten & Trunks did with Majin Buu. Their first attempt to fuse failed as Vegeta did not extend his index fingers, but rather used his entire fist instead. This error resulted in the far inferior 'Fat Gogeta'. On the second attempt, Vegeta performed the dance correctly thus resulting in a perfect fusion, creating Gogeta. He is considered by many to be one of the most powerful warriors in Dragonball Z.

Gogeta vs. Janemba

Janemba, after losing to Goku the first time, reforms and becomes a smaller, more powerful demon, who easily defeats Super Saiyan 3 Goku. Goku hides after a fierce battle since it seems that even he cannot defeat the new form of Janemba. Fortunately, Vegeta arrives to give Goku some assistance, though he too is outmatched. Eventually Goku has no choice but to perform the fusion dance with Vegeta, who at first declines, but then accepts after seeing there is no other way to defeat their enemy. The first fusion is a failure, and as a result, Veku (also known as Fat Gogeta) is formed instead of Gogeta. The second time is a successful fusion, and Gogeta appears. Fearing the new warrior, Janemba displays his power to Gogeta. Unimpressed, Gogeta powers up as well, putting Janemba in total awe. Within seconds, Gogeta charges at Janemba, landing multiple blows to the body of the demon, hurting him very badly. He then ends the fight very quickly with his new techniques, a combination move called the Soul Strike, and ending it with the Soul Punisher, a powerful energy ball resembling a rainbow, which completely destroys Janemba inside-out.

Gogeta vs. Omega Shenron

At the end of Dragonball GT the last of the Shadow Dragons, Omega Shenron, defeats Goku's most powerful form, the Super Saiyan 4. Vegeta then appears and is turned into a Super Saiyan 4 by an invention of Bulma's. After transforming he says to Goku, "Kakarot, if we attack now, we'll die," and then suggests the Fusion Dance because it is the only way they stand a chance of defeating Omega Shenron. After distractions from Trunks, Goten, and Gohan, Goku and Vegeta perform fusion as Super Saiyan 4's and thus create Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta. Omega Shenron lunges at Gogeta and is violently launched back- it appeared as though Gogeta didn't even touch him, but he actually punched Omega Sheron several times. It was so fast that Gogeta said he'd slow it down and do it once more. Omega Shenron then lunges again, and Gogeta punches him again, this time a bit slower so that it is barely visible. After toying with Omega Sheron, Gogeta then stops one of Omega's furious attacks called the "Negative Karma Ball". Just by coming into contact with the energy ball, Gogeta flooded it with his positive energy, and kicked it into space, resulting in an explosion of energy just outside of Earth's orbit. Gogeta then punishes Omega with his Big Bang Kamehameha Wave and cripples him. Miraculously, Omega barely survives. This impresses Gogeta, but he says Omega Shenron would not be able to survive another attack. Just as Gogeta prepared another Big Bang Kamehameha wave, his fusion wore off, resulting in Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Vegeta reappearing. The fusion lasted only 10 minutes rather than the usual 30 because of the immense power Gogeta possesed.

Gogeta's strength

Gogeta is considered to be the among the strongest characters in the Dragon Ball Universe, and possibly the most powerful. Gogeta's strength and its placement within the DBZ continuity, amongst other characters' strengths, is of much debate with most of the fan community. Most of the debate however, is on whether Gogeta is stronger or weaker than Vegetto. Although it has been directly stated by the Elder Kai that the Potara Fusion is the proper way to fuse, it is unclear which fusion is stronger, and which type of fusion is more compatible. Most of the fan community believes that Gogeta's fusion is inferior to Vegetto's. If this is true, it would mean that Gogeta would always be weaker than Vegetto at the same stage of transformation (Super Saiyan Gogeta would be weaker than Super Saiyan Vegetto, and so on.) Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta appears to be stronger than Super Saiyan Vegetto. However, this may not be an accurate measurement of their true strengths because there are three stages of transformations between them. It is still unknown at this time whether or not Vegetto can transform past the Super Saiyan stage, which may make any comparison between the two characters pure hypothesis.

It's said that Janemba is as powerful as 3 Kid Buus, and Gogeta took care of him rather easily. This would mean that Gogeta at SSJ is at least far stronger than 3 Super Saiyan 3 Gokus.

Forms and transformations

Veku (Fat Gogeta)

The fat version of Gogeta. This occurred when Goku and Vegeta attempted to fuse with the fusion dance in Movie 12 for the first time. Unfortunately, Vegeta fails to extend his index finger, resulting in a bad fusion, forming a fat, incredibly weak fighter named Veku by South Kaio. In this form, speed is decreased, and ki is limited to the point where it is ridiculous to even try to fight. Veku, because of his state, is unable to perform any ki attacks due to the drop in power. And because of his fat body, he cannot retaliate by punching and kicking. Instead, all Veku can do is fart, which he uses it against Janemba to try and escape him. Just like a regular fusion, the time is 30 minutes before the two fighters diffuse and have to wait for an hour before another fusion can be made possible. This type of failed fusion is also seen in Goten's and Trunks' during the Buu Saga, where they formed Fat Gotenks when attempting to fuse for the first time.

Super Saiyan

This form is seen during DBZ Movie 12. Immediately after the successful fusion dance of Goku and Vegeta, Gogeta is at Super Saiyan as both halves (Goku and Vegeta) had previously mastered the transformation. It is debated whether or not he is actually at Super Saiyan 1 or Super Saiyan 2, but he is certainly powerful enough to destroy Janemba. While at this stage, he is already far stronger than Vegeta at Super Saiyan 2, Goku at Super Saiyan 3, and even the other fusion Gotenks at Super Saiyan 3. Though he is incredibly powerful, it is not known if he is as strong as Vegetto, the other fusion of Goku and Vegeta with the Potara earrings.

Super Saiyan 4

This stage is seen in Dragon Ball GT, where Goku and Vegeta both faced off against the mighty Yi Xing Long. With the fusion dance, they successfully created Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, who was amazingly powerful. Unlike Vegeta and Goku, Gogeta's SSJ4 form has brown fur and fiery red hair, instead of the opposite. This could be due to Vegeta's fur being crimson and his hair brown, while Goku's fur red and his hair black. The mixture of the two colored-furs might have resulted in Gogeta's odd appearance. Compared to his more serious Super Saiyan form, Gogeta is somewhat more cocky and wacky, toying with the evil Shenron instead of easily defeating him. While at this stage, Gogeta is easily the strongest, already surpassing SSJ4 Goku's, Vegeta's, and even the evil dragon's strength.

Special abilities

Gogeta does not have access to all of Goku/Kakarot and Vegeta's attacks like Vegetto. The Fusion Dance is inferior to the Potara earring fusion, thus this fusion can be mantained for only a short time, and only gets a few favorite techniques from each individual, but can blend them or create original attacks. It should be noted that Gogeta, like Vegetto and Gotenks, shares the same attacks that the 'component' fighters can use (i.e. Gogeta can use both the Big Bang Attack and Kamehameha).

Soul Punisher
(Rainbow Sparkling Blast, Stardust Breaker) This is the technique that Gogeta used to kill Janemba. When executing this technique Gogeta races first towards his target at incredible speed and delivers a blur of invisible punches to the chest of the target. Then Gogeta quickly appears behind his target, kicking two times with his knee in the neck, then he kicks during a backflip, delivering an uppercut. Then Gogeta puts one hand in the air and forms a baseball sized rainbow colored energy ball. When Gogeta throws it at the target it has a delayed effect, but finally disintegrates the target to glittery gold dust.

Soul Strike
This attack is merely an attack combo, rather than an attack. He kicks the enemy three times, two times with the knee, and one backflip kick. This is then followed up by the Soul Punisher attack.

Big Bang Kamehameha
This is Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta's most powerful technique. This is a combination between the Kamehameha Wave and the Big Bang attack. Gogeta puts both of his hands in front of him, palms open, hands turned up at a 90 degree angle and fuses together the energy of the Kamehameha wave and the Big Bang attack into a blue energy ball about the size of Gogeta.

Episode/Movie appearances

Gogeta's first appearance is in DBZ Movie 12, "Fusion Reborn", as a fusion to defeat the monster Janemba. In the movie, Janemba takes over Other World, which causes the spirits of hell to be unleashed on Earth, as zombies. Goku and Vegeta team up to fight the monster, and match it evenly until it transforms into its Super form and easily outclasses both Saiyans. In desperation, Goku and Vegeta fuse into Gogeta via the Fusion Dance.

His most major role, however, is his brief fight with Yi Xing Long in Dragonball GT, although Gogeta's cockiness gets in the way of defeating Yi Xing Long. The following is a table of Gogeta's appearances:

Episode Number
Episode
Appearance
Movie 12
"Fusion Reborn"
Created when Goku and Vegeta fuse to defeat Janemba
DBGT 60
"Super Saiyan 4 Fusion"
Created when Super Sayian 4 Goku and Vegeta fuse to defeat Omega Shenron

Gogeta also appears in Dragon Ball Z Games such as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi, Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2.
