Request for comment: Shall the current name of this article be changed to a dual name?

The name/title "Senkaku Islands" currently used for this article and its related articles has been disputed for quite a long time even after the previous RfC. A number of editors have raised the concern and recently almost reached a consensus particularly in light of great and increasing numbers of reliable sources published in English lanuage, that a dual (hybrid) name such as "Diaoyu/Senkaku" or "Senkaku/Diaoyu" should be applied for the name/title of this articles and its related articles. There are two issues in this RfC: "Issue I: Shall the current name of this article be changed to a dual name?" that will formally confirm the consensus. And "Issue II: Which dual name should be used?" that is waiting for a consensus.

Issue I: Shall the current name of this article be changed to a dual name?

If you consent on this request to change the current name into a dual name, type "Yes" first and then your comment, and go to Issue II below to provide your option which dual name you think should be used.

  • Yes, It shall be. According to reliable sources, for the name of the islands, "Senkaku" is Romanized Japanese name and "Diaoyu" is Romanized Chinese name (or described like "called Diaoyu in China and Senkaku in Japan"), and "Pinnacle Islands" is the name from English language but less used in the moden time.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13] Many reliable sources in English language directly use a dual form "Diaoyu/Senkaku" or "Senkaku/Diaoyu" making the two local names equally together and brief, and to keep these sources independent neutral stands for this ownership disputed islands [8][10][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21]. Also according to Wikipedia:Five pillars particular WP:NPOV and WP:NOR, and other relevant policies, and the reliable sources listed but not limited the above, the current single local name shall be changed into a dual local name as soon as possible.--Lvhis (talk)

You just stop here with no need of going to Issue II.



Issue II: Which dual name should be used?

There are two forms of dual (or hybrid) name: "Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands" and "Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands". Both of them are from and supported by reliable sources. The result of this part will be decided by simple straw polls or votes. Make your option under the respective dual name provided, and give a simple reason if you like to input but better nothing related to the territory dispute in the real world.
