Ali Raymi Born (December 7, 1973) is a Yemeni professional boxer. He was born in Raymah, and raised in Sana'a. His professional boxing record is 20-0 (20 KOs, all of which occurred in the first round).

Boxing career

Little is known about Ali Raymi early life. However, Yemeni News archives[2][3] show that Ali Raymi started boxing at the late age of 32, arguably compiling an amateur record of 31-1 with 31 knockouts. He was a Yemeni amateur champion in 2006 & 2007.[4][5] It was during this time that Ali Raymi started breaking Yemeni cultural norms by drinking & selling Alcohol, participating in private Unsanctioned fights for the next 3 years. Ali Raymi grew to have a reputation in Sana'a as a loose cannon.[6]

On November 11, 2013, Ali Raymi set a new world record by winning his first 20 fights as a professional by first-round knockout.[7]

Because of his questionable competition, abrasive insults, trash talking, punching power and perfect knockout ratio, he became the most talked about minimumweight, a weight class usually ignored by casual boxing fans. By the fall of 2013 he became a boxing web cult figure,[8] which brought the attention of established sports writers who began writing about Ali Raymi[9][10]& requesting interviews. Robert Coster from Fightnews.com published the first & only interview with Ali Raymi[11]
