Koton (dog)

Koton is the name of a real life German Shepard Police dog who played Jerry Lee in the 1989 movie K-9. Koton was shot and killed in 1991 while trying to apprehend a criminal.

History

Koton was a German Shepard, the most commonly used dog used in policing. The Kansas City, Missouri Police used Koton as a police K-9 officer. During Koton's career he was responsible for over 24 felony arrests and in October 1991 located 10 kilos of cocaine worth more than $1.2 (US) million dollars.

Koton appeared in the 1989 film K-9 starring James Belushi. He also briefly starred in a TV series also named K-9 where he starred as Rondo the Dog. Koton later went back to working as a real life K-9.

Death

On November 18, 1991 Koton was fatally shot while trying to apprehend a suspect in the murder of a police officer. Koton's handler/partner was named Officer Patterson.
