Touch me not (Mimosa pudica, mimosa puvica, mimosa punica) is one of the weird plants in the world. This plant is a perennial herb, common in tropical and sub tropical region of the world. The origin of mimosa is South America, Portuguese Merchants brought this herb in India. Now it is very common herb in Indian subcontinent. In Bangladesh and some parts of India it is called ‘Lazzabati’ as it folds up its leaflet upon touching. The word ‘Lazzabati’ means “the shy girl”. The plant is almost like a shy girl as it closes its leaflet. It folds up its leaflet upon touching just like a shy girl. Why it does so?

The plant flowers in small ball-shaped flower in pink, yellow and purple color.
